Preview:Texans @ Vikes

The game against the Texans is a make or break game. The Vikes and Texans are two very evenly matched teams. The Vikes will need to contain Andre Johnson, he is the Texans big play receiver. He leads the NFL in recieving yards. The Vike will have Winfield on him more than likely. The pass rush for the Vike need keep Matt Schaub under pressure all game or he may make some big plays.
The Vike OL have to protect Gus and open up holes for AD to torch the Texans, run defense.

The Texans

Offense: Total Yards-371.6(4th NFL Rank)
Rushing- 118.4(11)
Passing- 253.1(5)

Defense: Total Yards- 326.6 (16)
Rushing- 119.6 (21)
Passing- 207.0(16)

Vikings:
Offense: Total Yards-341.9(12th NFL Rank)
Rushing- 128.4 (8)
Passing- 213.4(17)

Defense: Total Yards- 290.1(8)
Rushing- 70.7(2)
Passing- 219.4(20)

It will be an interesting game, with the Texans coming to the Thunder Dome with a 3 game winning streak. The Vikes have to play balanced offense and they will win this game.

What is going on??

I thought that the Vikes would be save with no problems during the bye week. Yet again it is a bye week after all. The NFL issued a report that 8 players were accused of taking a ban substance Diuretic. Kevin and Pat Williams are 2 of the 8 players that tested positive for this ban substance. They will be appealing this, but if this goes through the anchor of the Vikes line would be suspended for 4 games.

The Vikes would be in trouble and that would be the season for the Vikes and maybe it for Chilly. We shall see what all transpires from the Water Pill 8.

Kluwe's blunder

In this video, I would not doubt that the Vikes might get some offers from the MLS for Kluwe.

Vikes 41 Bears 48

Vikes not so Special

In the shootout loss to the Bears was a rollercoaster ride most of the game. What really hurt the Vikes were the special teams. It was pathetic to see what Vikes had planned for Hester on kickoffs, it was to kick it to the 30 yard line so the Bears would have great field position every drive. Considering that the average starting field position was on their own 46 yard line. The punting units were not much better either. The two blundering really costed the Vikes the game. The two plays were:

· Chris Kluwe dropped a snap and had his punt blocked. He then attempted an illegal kick, and Garrett Wolfe returned it 17 yards for a touchdown.

· Charles Gordon mishandled a punt by Brad Maynard when he tried to block Bowman. Instead, the ball hit him and Bowman recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown that gave Chicago a 24-17 lead.

Captain Neck hair in a Passing Frenzy

It also did not help the Vikes ”pass defense” made Kyle Orton look like the second coming of Peyton Manning or something. With the stats he put against the Vikes he completed 21 of 32 passes for 283 yards and 2 TD passes. The Vikes defense could not stop Orton from picking them apart much of the game. The Vikes pass rush was nonexistent when it was much needed. The line contained the Vikes front 4 most of the game. Jared Allen had 2 sacks and a forced fumble that was about all the pressure the Orton felt.

Gus or Bust

Sure Gus Frerotte passed for nearly 400 yards and two TD passes against a raw and banged up Bears secondary. The problem was is he threw 4 interception (1 nearly going the distance). Sure Gus is a better decision maker the T-Jack was. The issue with him is that his accuracy is a big issue. There is a reason why is a journeyman QB, that has been with 7 different teams. Gus is a #2 QB, but heis the best we have right now. He has extreme highs and lows. The received lit up the secondary most of the game. Berrian had six receptions for 81 yards and a 5-yard touchdown catch. The Vikes had the Ball with a minute left with the score 41-48. On the second play of the drive his pass was intercepted to end the game.

Adrian Peterson did what he does best run the ball. He rushed for 121 yards on 22 carries and 2 TDS(1,54). He displayed another great performance this season. Peterson hit the 2,000-yard rushing mark in his 21st career game, tying him for third fastest to reach that milestone in NFL history.

Preview Vikes @ Da Bears

The Vikes will be going to the Windy City to face the Bears. With the Vikes, Bears and Packers in a 3 way tie for 1st place and all having a bye next week. It will be an interesting game when everything will be said and done. Here are some stats:

Da Bears
Offense: Total Yards-337(13th NFL Rank)
Rushing- 118.3(13)
Passing- 218.7(12)

Defense: Total Yards- 310.7(12)
Rushing- 74.5(5)
Passing- 236.3(27)

Vikings:
Offense: Total Yards-325.7(15th NFL Rank)
Rushing- 124(9)
Passing- 201.7(17)

Defense: Total Yards- 284(7)
Rushing- 73.7(7)
Passing- 210.3(15)

It looks like ti is going to be pretty evenly match game on Sunday. The Vikes needs to keep pressure on Captain Neckbeard. With Orton under the helm, if the Vikes keep CONSTANT pressure on him he will fold like a stack of cards. If the Vikes D can stop the Bears passing game, then there will be problems with the rushing attack.

The need to score points. This is something they have had a hard time doing this season. The offense needs to get more insync, than they have looked most of the season so far.The Vikes have been winning, but with a bit of help from other team and refs.
The need to close out the game without help and Childress has use the tools he has to lead the Vikes into the bye with a win.

Good Move

With the Vikes hurting at the linebacker position. Brad Childress is bring back an old face to the Beloved Purple.Dontarrious Thomas was going to be working out out for the 'Fins, but he received a text from his agent. The Vikes were in a need of a Linebacker.Thomas, who the Vikings selected in the second round of the 2004 Draft, signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent this off-season, but was released during Training Camp The Vikes were doing pretty good to start off the season at the linebacking position. But the injuries hit the Vikes early this year.
  • Middle linebacker E.J. Henderson is out for the season because of a foot injury.
  • His backup, David Herron, suffered multiple injuries in Sunday's 12-10 victory against the Detroit Lions.

Thomas in all likely hood could be the Vikes starting Middle Linebacker come Sunday at Solider Field.

Vikes 12 Lion 10

With the Viking hosting the Lions on Sunday, it was suppose to be a lopsided victory for the Vikes. It was not at all the cause the Beloved Purple.
In the game Viking offense was not there in the first couple of quarters. Considering that the only points in that half came when Lion QB Dan Orlovsky was running away from Jared Allen in their end zone and was chased out for a safety.Frerotte and company just could not get anything going in the first half and some of the third quarter. The offense was spuddering. The unit would make a good play then the drive would fail. Nothing was going right now even Adrian Peterson who put the ball on the turf twice and lost them both. One of those was deep in Viking territory. The Vikings offense were not giving Childress much to work with. Nothing really did not get into the end zone until late in the third quarter when Berrian did most of the work on an 86-yard touchdown from Frerotte. Trailing 10-9 with 2:22 to play, the Vikings had a second-and-20 from their 32. Frerotte threw deep down the sideline for Aundrae Allison, and the ball fell incomplete. But field judge Mike Weir whistled Bodden for pass interference despite what appeared to be minimal contact. After that 5 plays later Ryan Longwell kicked the game winning field goal two week in a row.
Offense Leaders
  • Gus Frerotte finished with 296 yards, one touchdown and one interception
  • Adrian Peterson rushed for 111 yards on 25 carries, but lost two fumbles
  • Bernard Berrian 5 catches for 131 yards 1 TD
The defense did everything they could to keep the Vikes in this game. With Dan Orlovsky starting in front of hobbled Jon Kitna. The Viking defense held the Lions to 212 yards of total offense(rushing 100 yards, passing 112 yards). The pass rush was their by the Vikes all game long. Kevin Williams had a MONSTER game 8 tackles and 4 sacks. Kevin Williams has shown why he one of NFL top linemen. The Monsters of Twin Lakes have shown that they are one of the best defense in the league.

A win is a win how UGLY it may have been. Coming up next week the Vikes are going to have a real test going to Solider Field to face Da Bears.

Preview: Lions @ Vikes

Lion-Vikes Preview

In this game, the Vikes are expected to roll all over the Lions. After saying this the Vikes are known to let the Viking fans down, most of their franchise existence. On paper the Vikes should run all over the Lion defense with Adrian Peterson. It might be time for AD to have a breakout game this season. He has had some good game early in the season, but the defenses are putting 8-9 men in the box to stop him. With Gus Frerotte emerging and leading the Vikes passing game while AD is being controlled. Now the Vikes passing game, this might have defense coordinators thinking a little bit more. Here are the yards per game in a the passing and rushing categories on both sides of the ball:

The Vikes
Passing(off) 190.6(21st rank in NFL)
Rushing(off) 121.8(12)
Passing(def) 230(24)
Rushing(def) 71(3)

The Lions
Passing(off) 190.8(20)
Rushing(off) 72.3(31)
Passing(def) 249(29)
Rushing(def) 180(31)

I hope it is a great day come tomorrow for all Viking fans. SKOL VIKINGS!!!

Vikes 30 Saints 27

I am not going to be the first to say this, but it sure was a weird game down in the Big Easy Monday night. A win is a win. No matter how gruesome the game was. It was up and down, but it was a much needed victory for the Beloved Purple.

What Vikes were able to do:

With the Saints holding Adrian Peterson in check all game long(21 carries for32 yards). The Saints wanted to Vikes to beat them passing the ball. Gus Frerotte made some key throws in the second half, to Bernard Berrian for a 36 yard completion and a 33 yard touchdown, and another deep pass resulted in a 42 yard penalty on the Saints. For an offense that struggles to maintain drives, attempting to complete deep passes is key.

Bernard Berrian had one of his best games in his career thus far as a Viking 6 grabs for 110 yard and a game tying TD pass. BB is doing what was expected of his this season in game. It looks like with the change that Childress made in Week 3 is paying off with Frerotte the Vikes are 2-1.

Then there was the play of Antonio Winfield. He had another spectacular game. He sack-forced fumble-fumble recover, and the return of a blocked kick for a touchdown which gave the momentum to the Vikes. He was also credited with eight tackles, including five tackles for loss, and also had one pass break-up. With this performance Winfield was awarded NFC defensive player of the week.

The Viking had a good pass rush much of the game after the first drive of the game. It seemed like that the Vikes were in the backfield all game long. They were disrupting the timing of Drew Brees with his receivers, in which forced him to bailout early.Ofcourse, the rush defense dominated as always holding the Saints to 55 yards rushing. The line did all they could to dirupt the Saints high octane offense.

Viking remaining Question:

The pass protection: The Viking offensive line needs to be more reliable in keep the defending out of Frerotte's face. The line needs to work on protecting old man Gus or we may see T-Jack as our starting again. I do not think anybody wants to see that. The Viking are glad that we able to avoid the pass rush and throw those long completions.

The punting and coverage: What was that Chris Kluwe? If Reggie Bush returns one punt for a TD to the house. Give a good reason why you kick a line drive to him a second time. The coverage was also terrible on special team most of the game, the Saints had over 300 yards in return yards. It was pathetic to watch the coverage as much of the punting on the special teams unit.

Take EJ spot: The Vikes are tying to find somebody within the team to take EJ Henderson's spot after on Monday finding out he is going to miss the rest of the season. He was performing at a Pro Bowl caliber level. He was our best run stuffer and good in pass protection. We shall see what Chilly decides to do.

I'll take a win over a loss anytime. So now on Sunday we take on the Lions.

The Pass or the Run

In this game it will be the tale of the pass or the run. Will it be the offensive line crushing the Saints front 7 to make lanes, with Adrian Peterson to slash and dash through the Saint sub par defense. Is it going to Drew Brees let the Vikes have it with his passing attack. This is going to be an iteresting game come Monday Night. Here are some comparables:
The Vikes The Saints
Passing(off) 181ypg(19th rank in NFL) 327(1)
Rushing(off) 141(6) 87(25)
Passing(def) 71(3) 122(20)
Rushing(def) 207(17) 249(29)

So with these stat it seem like it will be a high scoring affair. I think that Vikes will pull this one out, because I factored in the fact that it is a home game. Here are some worries I have in this game.
Pictured to the left, that is my main concern.
I hope that he can call the game that best equips the offensive we have.We shall see come Monday Night.
