New Opportunity

This will be my last post over here at Viking Nation. I would like to thank all my loyal readers that have continued to stop by over the years. This past week a fellow Viking blogger proposed an opportunity to be a write on his site: The Viking Ship. His site is one of the top Viking blogs out there right now. I could not pass on a good thing.

So I am taking my talents elsewhere on the web. This will take effect immediately after I click on the orange post button. Please stop by my new stomping ground and enjoy.

Does Vegas Control Football

I have been a fan on the NFL for past 15 years and change. The question is does the people in Vegas have a say whom they would prefer to have in the Super bowl? Now that is an interesting question. In this years Super Bowl will be featuring the two most storied franchises in NFL history, the Green bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The NFL knows that the Super Bowl is one of the Prime Games of the year. What matchup sounds like it would draw the most viewers:

  • GB vs Jets
  • GB vs Pit
  • Chi vs Jets
  • Chi vs Pit

I do say that this years Super Bowl match up does seem like that the game will not be over by half time. The fans want a decent balance of offense and defense not a defense battle like who would have if Chicago and the Jets would have made the Big Show.

I know that this assessment does come from a Viking fan. The fact that listening to this idiots over here in the land of cheese is getting a little OVER the top. Right now I am boycotting the local news channel until after the SB. The news that they do have on is 3/4 Packers coverage.

I am just wondering to the Viking fans that do read my blog, do the Vikes get talked about everyday in the local news??

New Faces

It was obvious that Leslie Frazier did not like the coaches that were left on the post Chilly era. There were some changes that he felt were we needed here is a look at the new faces that will be on the side line.

Bill Musgrave – Offensive Coordinator
Fred Pagac – Defensive Coordinator
Mike Priefer – Special Teams Coordinator
Mike Singletary – Special Assistant to the Head Coach/Linebackers Coach
Craig Johnson – Quarterbacks Coach
Jeff Davidson – Offensive Line Coach
Ryan Silverfield – Assistant Offensive Line Coach

As of right now, Frazier will be tweaking the offense. He is not planning on overhauling it the way that he did to the coaching staff. Change is usually a good thing. I just hope that it will be better for the Vikings in the long run.

The Torment Lives On

As everyone should know by now the Green Bay Packers are moving on the NFL Championship game after beating the F out of the Falcons Saturday Night. The game was torture to watch the Packers were victorious by a score of 48-21.

The Mouser Rodgers picked apart the Falcons pass defense for most of the game throwing for 366 yards and 3 TD and 1 rushing. The other thing that amazed me in that game he threw ONLY 5 incomplete passes. Just think if the 49ers would have chose him instead of Alex Smith.

The Packers did not rush the ball effectively, but enough to fool the Falcons. I am not sure how you could think that the Packers were going to run the ball in the 1st place. The only thing that they have done good this season is pass the ball.

The defense for the Packer was led by the Clay Greaseball Matthews. The Falcons offense were not able to get anything going in the game. It was mistake after mistake in the game. The biggest mistake came when there was less than 10 ticks left in the half and Matt Ryan threw a pass that was intercepted by Tramon Williams that went 70 yards for a TD. With that score the Packers went into the locker room with a 14 point lead.

With the win the Packers and da Bears will be facing off in the NFC Championship. Right now I would rather see the Bears make the Super Bowl over the Packers. The Bears have been a team that people have said that they are not for real and will be knocked out the playoffs if they make it all season. It should be a good game.

GO BEARS!!!

On February 12th Vikings Fans will be coming together to help raise money for fellow fan Dan Quandt of Davenport, IA.  On the night of December 17, 2010 Dan was stabbed 14 times for being a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and left for dead. Dan wore his Vikings colors proudly that day and almost lost his life because of it. I believe that we as fellow fans, players, alumni and human beings owe it to Dan to show our support and love to him. Dan still has a long road to recovery with other surgeries possibly pending in the not-so-distant future. Won't you please join us in supporting Dan who literally Bled for the Vikings! Sure Does Suck

GREEN BAY, WI - OCTOBER 24: Cheering Green Ba...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
As I have stated in the past, I live smack dab in the middle of Packer country. So all flipping week, I get the "privilege" of listening to the Packer fans. Just like all season listening to "Oh, look at how our team is doing with all the injuries."

With the Packer set to play Atlanta, I am just HOPING that the Falcons just destroy the Packers all game long. The fans are so annoying making it sound like that they did something to affect any of the games that the Packer won this past year.

This week my two favorite players are Micheal Turner and Matty Ice Ryan. Every week, I just HOPE that the Packers lose. Still they will mention on how the Packer did this season with all the injuries...AGGGGGGGH.

Fairley Getting Some Attention

It was evident with the way that Nick Fairley last night on the big stage made the aguement of being selected by the Panthers.. He lived up to his reputation as a game-changer for better, with three tackles for loss, including a sack -- and for worse, when he got a 15-yard penalty for shoving James' face into the turf after the whistle.

He displayed the way that he can change the game by disrupting the offense just by himself.  He has the same kind of talent that Suh has for the Cornhuskers did a season ago. If Carolina does switch to a 3-4 defense, Fairley would be the perfect fit for at DE.

Jenkins and Blackmon NOT Declaring

After Andrew Luck decided to stay in school another year. Now two more 1st rounders decided not to opt out of their senior season. Two big name prospects appear to be leaning towards staying in college. There’s a lot of speculation coming out of Oklahoma State that receiver Justin Blackmon won’t turn pro. Today Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

I would say that either player is ranked about 3rd at their position.  I am kind of surprised to see Jenkins is staying in school this fall. With the way that he played all season sure was making a name for himself. I guess that we will be waiting for another year for these prospects. Hopefully the extra years helps out all these players.

Frazier Shaking Things Up

Less than a week on the job and Leslie Frazier is already giving some coaches their walking papers to the unemployment line. To make it in the NFL as a Head Coach, you have to be rid yourself of the weakest link(s). This season was mostly on offense. Here are some of the coaches that Frazier has identified as no worth to being part of the 2011 Vikings.

QB Coach Kevin Rogers, Offensive Line Coach Pat Morris and Assistant Offensive Line Coach Jim Hueber were axed by Frazier, and interim defensive coordinator Fred Pagac will more than likely be named permanent defensive coordinator.

So far Darrell Bevell is still the OC for the Vikings. The seat he is still on is EXTREMELY hot at the moment. Considering that nobody is sure that the Vikes will be a West Coast offense team next season, only time will tell for us fans.  Josh McDaniels' candidacy is intriguing because Darrell Bevell technically remains the Vikings' offensive coordinator. Bevell met with Frazier this week and, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, was told there still might be a change.

It is going to be something to see how the coaching staff is going to look this next fall......well as long as football is played at least.

Viking Teams Needs as of Right Now

During this offseason the Vikings have 3 key areas that they will need to work on.
  1. QB
  2. OLB
  3. DE
With a new head coach in Leslie Frazier for the Vikings, it will be interesting to see if he can actually get a QB that is not 60 years old. It is likely that the Vikes that T-Jack will not be together next season. So T-Jack will be backup up somebody else in the 2011 season.

As for the OLB and DE, the Vikes will be losing somebody to Free Agency here is a list of them. In my opinion, Ray Edwards will be moving on to a different team. He and Vikes were in a struggle with him being franchise tagged last season and made Edwards unhappy. The Vikes will be without Ben Leber or Chad Greenway next season as well. The Vikes should should do all they can to keep Greenway, considering the season that he has been having in the past couple of seasons.Last season was the only year that he did not have over 100 tackles(99). He does have a nose for the football.

These are some of my team need thoughts for the Vikes as of this moment.

Season is Finished

It was a fitting finish for the 2010 Minnesota Vikings to lose of the Lions 20-13-one of the worse teams in the NFL for quite a while. A 6-10 record was the Lions best finish since 1995, I just cannot believe that stat.

I for one am thrilled that the regular season FINALLY came to a close. This season was troublesome from the start--when the posse went to BEG Brett Favre back for another run for the Super Bow. The run failed terribly in 2010.

I do must say, i am kind of glad that my word has been running 7 days a week that I did not have to suffer though some of the performances that the Vikes put forth some weeks. I would be shocked if the Vikes even get a primetime games in the 2011 season.

After 2 years of Brett Favre, the Vikings are where they started out. No Super Bowls in the trophy case, and the Viking will be searching for a QB this offseason. Do not get me wrong Favre had an incredible year last season that nobody would have ever envisioned. This season is what I expected last season, a quarterback playing that should have quite a couple of seasons ago.

With Leslie Frazier as the Viking official Head Coach now. It will be something if he keeps the coaching staff that they currently employ. Only time will tell to see what changes that he does make in coordinators and player personal. I just hope that the Vikes can fill the gaps was some key free agents this offseaon and hope that the Vikes do not lose to many key players this season either. We all just hope that there will be some NFL to watch in September 2011.

So it i offical the Vikings are now in the offseason. I know the season was not what we at all envisioned. I just hope the Packers get smoked next Sunday...PLEASE!!
