This was a huge game both teams playing for the division lead and if the Bears won they would have a 2 game lead (with the series sweep). The Vikes needed to show up in every aspect of the game and they did.
The Vikings were down 7-3 and the Bears were at the Viking 1 yard with 4 downs to play with. The Vikings Williams Wall completely shut down the Bears on that series and that was the turning point of the game. Here is the play-by-play for the goal line stand:
· 1-1-MIN 1 (6:13) 18-K.Orton pass incomplete short right to 82-G.Olsen.
· Timeout #1 by CHI at 06:08.
· 2-1-MIN 1 (6:08) 22-M.Forte left tackle to MIN 1 for no gain (54-V.Ciurciu, 52-C.Greenway).
· 3-1-MIN 1 (5:38) 43-J.Davis up the middle to MIN 1 for no gain (90-F.Evans).
· 4-1-MIN 1 (5:04) 22-M.Forte right guard to MIN 1 for no gain (94-P.Williams, 69-J.Allen)
The Viking offense did not waste any time, Gus Frerotte goes back to pass and looks down the field and fire and 40 yard pass to a WIDE OPEN Bernard Berrian and he takes it the rest of the way for a 99 yards TD reception.
The Vikings next series, the offense marched down the field and Frerotte completed a 20 yard pass to Jim Kleinsasser and that was followed by a 1 yard plunge by Frerotte. After the Goal line stand the Vikes have 14 unanswered points.
After the turn of events, the momentum shifted to the Vikings. Bears QB Kyle Orton was harassed by Jared Allen and company from midway through the second quarter on. Jared Allen had 3 sacks in the game. With the pass rush from the Vikings, Orton was forced to rush some throws and he was intercepted 3 times(Ben Leber, Bennie Sapp and Daren Sharper), but before this game he was not been intercepted in 206 consecutive pass attempts.
In the game Adrian Peterson had a good game on the ground running over, around and passed the Bears defense in this game. He had 100 yards in the game, and he finished the game 131 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown run. Peterson now is the league leader with 1311 yards on 270 carries and 9 TDs.
The Vikes cruised to Victory in this game not looking back now they are in sole possession of the NFC North. This week we are told we will find out the fate of the Williams Wall if they will miss the rest of the regular season or not.
