The most important rule you much do before you even think about pre-ranking your players. Do your research on the offensive players particularly. Those are the players that get you the bulk of your points. The players that you should do your research on is should be RB, QB, WR, TE -in that order.
I am sorry, but there have been undervalued RBs that I got off free agency and had a great season. Take last season for instance, I knew that Ray Rice is a dual threat at RB. After the draft i was looking through the FA and saw him and nabbed him up and look at the season that he had. So while researching if you have a gut feeling just go with it.
Some other aspects you need to take a look at for a running back.
- Where are they on the depth chart
- Has there been any significant linemen pickups
- Are there any other weapons on offense
- If he is prone to fumbling, does his yardage and TDs outweigh the cons
