Ice Cube. I have been watching quite a bit of the documentaries, but this one sure does hit home pretty hard. If any of you watched it I am not taking about rap revolution. I am talking more on the line with the team up and moving to LA.
With the Vikings as an organization have been wanting a new stadium for a while now(2004). I am afraid if they do not get an agreement reach an agreement with the Minnesota State House panel then the Vikings will start searching elsewhere. The lease on the current stadium end in 2011. I am thinking this year is get err done(Win a Super Bowl) or the Vikes may be packing up and be in the same city as the old Minneapolis Lakers.
The Vikings owner Zygi Wilf has stated in the past his development plans. Wilf want to try to develop the downtown Minneapolis area with the new stadium. The plan included substantial improvements to the surrounding area, including an improved light rail stop, 4,500 residential units, hotels with a combined 270 rooms, 1,700,000 square feet of office space and substantial retail space. Wilf's Vikings began acquiring significant land holdings in the Downtown East neighborhood around the Metrodome in June 2007, the Vikings acquired four blocks of mostly empty land surrounding the Star Tribune headquarters from Avista Capital Partners for $45 million; it is also believed the Vikings have first right of refusal to later buy the paper's headquarters building.
One of the only ways to keep a team at the current location is by winning and Viking have done that throughout it years. Overall winning percentage put them at 5th overall(behind Cowboys, Dolphins, Bears and Packers). Of the top 5 they are the only team that does not have a Lombardi Trophy in its possession.I am hoping for a change in that department this season.
There has been so many fans trying so hard to persuade the state to keep the Vikings in Minnesota. Fans in the state of Minnesota have been down this road before 2 Pro teams to hotter markets(Lakers and North Stars) than Minnesota. If this was to happen where would the storied rivalries go.
With the state of Minnesota weighing its options if they can support two new Professional Sports stadium in a smaller market will be seen in the near future. Will the Viking relocate to LA if the state does give them a new stadium?
