A Fantasy World
I have been doing fantasy football for probably 10 years I would like to say. It is by far my favorite fantasy sport to participate in. Every so often i am going to throw so tidbit about my thoughts of the world of fantasy football with no charge. What a sweet deal, huh.
The most important rule you much do before you even think about pre-ranking your players. Do your research on the offensive players particularly. Those are the players that get you the bulk of your points. The players that you should do your research on is should be RB, QB, WR, TE -in that order.
I am sorry, but there have been undervalued RBs that I got off free agency and had a great season. Take last season for instance, I knew that Ray Rice is a dual threat at RB. After the draft i was looking through the FA and saw him and nabbed him up and look at the season that he had. So while researching if you have a gut feeling just go with it.
Some other aspects you need to take a look at for a running back.

- Where are they on the depth chart
- Has there been any significant linemen pickups
- Are there any other weapons on offense
- If he is prone to fumbling, does his yardage and TDs outweigh the cons

Gerhart Not Happy
Toby Gerhart has been a little unhappy. It is not the reason many people may think like practice or position on the depth chart. It is the fact the people continue to racial profile him. There are so many people that think that he may be a tight end or a fullback in the NFL. This is not going to be the case for Gerhart.
There were teams at the combine that even asked him if 'he felt entitled. What does that mean? Teams were wondering if Toby felt entitled to be a white running back. This is because many people know that the NFL is dominated by black running backs in for most of its history.
I think with these questions could give Gerhart so extra motivation as a running back. He will be able to show the league that he is more than just a running back, but a back to keep an eye on.
The reason that this was not in the headline was the Dez Bryant question about his mother possibility being a prostitute made it ahead of the Gerhart issue. So I now ask my readers to respond if you would like to an interesting question:
What would your response be if you were asked about if you felt entitled to do a certain job due to the color of your skin?
With the news of finding this out I hope that Toby runs through every team(as I would anyway) of thinking that he could not be a legit TAILBACK in the NFL.
Here are Toby Gerhart's records he acculated at Stanford:
Here are some of Toby records in college:
Pac-10 records

Sharper Image
In which I think this is funny considering that Sharper has been nursing a bad knee for most of the offseason and a good reason why NOBODY wanted him. If I was the Viking front 5 on offense I would be putting a helmet or nice healthy chop block to his knee. This MIGHT teach Sharper a lesson to keep your mouth shit especially when you are not 100 percent.
It is said to say that he use to be a Viking and now he is nothing more than a overrated has been in the league. The reason that he had so many INTs was the amount of times he blew his coverage. The motto for the 1st game of the season:
Chop 42 To The Floor
Chop Him Till He Cannot Walk Anymore

10 Random Viking Facts
Hey Vikings Fans! It's The Jazzy One from The Viking Ship here. GB Nordic is off with his wife bringing a new Vikings fan into the world, so he asked me to entertain you while he's away!
If you're familiar with my site at all, you'll know that I really enjoy facts, figures, stats, trivia, etc. One of the features I do on the site is called Daily Vikings Trivia. I post a small fact about the Vikings 5 days a week. I look at it as a quick and interesting way to get a little Viking info flowing through your brains every morning.
So today I thought I'd share 10 interesting random facts about the Vikings with all of you in Viking Nation.
Running back Adrian Peterson is the nephew of former NFL running back Ivory Lee Brown, who played briefly for the Vikings in 1993.
After the 2009 season, the Vikings all time regular season record was 407-326-9.
The 1981 Vikings hold the NFL record for most passes attempted in a single season with 709.
Former USC football coach and new Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carrol was the DB coach on Bud Grant's staff in 1985. Carroll also coached four more years under Jerry Burns.
The first touchdown scored in the Metrodome was a pass from Tommy Kramer to Joe Senser.
At the University of South Carolina, Sidney Rice earned first team all SEC honors in 2006.
Although he played behind rookie Adrian Peterson for most of 2007, running back Chester Taylor still amassed 844 yards and 7 TDs on 157 carries.
Three different Vikings QBs have started for the Vikings, left the team, came back, and started again. Those three Vikings were Fran Tarkenton, Brad Johnson, and Gus Frerotte (although Frerotte only started in his first stint due to injuries to Daunte Culpepper).
When former Vikings Quarterback Fran Tarkenton retired after the 1978 season he held the NFL records for passing attempts, passing completions, total passing yards, and passing touchdowns. As of right now, current Vikings quarterback Brett Favre holds all of those records.
Adrian Peterson was the #7 pick overall in 2007. 25 years earlier the Vikings also had the #7 pick in the 1982 draft where they selected another running back: Darrin Nelson

More Stadium Thoughts 2.0
With the Vikings and the and the Minnesota State Legislature unable to find a way to co-exist so far to fund a new facility for the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikes fire back at the state government with this statement:
As many of you know I am not a resident, but know a deal about paying for a renovation of a new NFL stadium(damn Packers). That is about all for stadium news.
With the being said the Vikes did a favor to the government and allowed different teams to develop new facilities for the Twins and University if Minnesota. Now when it comes down to the Vikes to stay in Minnesota the government is lallygagging around trying to pit it off as long as possible. It sure will be interesting with the Vikes and the government rehashing this issue in the NEAR future and see how much more it will cost the state.“The Minnesota Vikings want to thank the tens of thousands of Vikings fans for their tremendous support for a new stadium. We appreciate the army of fans who stand with us at this watershed moment for the future of the franchise in Minnesota.
“The Vikings organization is extremely disappointed that the Governor and State Legislature did not move the stadium issue forward this year. While we greatly respect the challenges and priorities faced by the State of Minnesota, resolution of this issue has now been pushed to the final year of the lease. This lack of action will only increase the costs of the project for everyone, plus we missed the opportunity to put thousands of Minnesotans back to work.
“The Vikings and the NFL have made significant commitments to this market — commitments that cannot be sustained at the Metrodome. In 2006, the Vikings were asked by Governor Pawlenty and State leaders to step back and allow the Twins and Gophers stadium issues to be resolved. Those State leaders committed to work with the team to resolve this issue. More than four years later, those commitments have not been honored.
“We appeal to our State’s leaders to join the bi-partisan group of legislators who have stepped up to work on securing the long-term future of the Vikings in Minnesota. This group of leaders has acknowledged that having an NFL team in Minnesota requires a stadium solution. This solution must be finalized in the 2011 Session.”
As many of you know I am not a resident, but know a deal about paying for a renovation of a new NFL stadium(damn Packers). That is about all for stadium news.

Not Our King
It seems that we have come to that time of the ridiculous predictions. If you guys have not seen SI's "expert" in Peter King's power rankings. I guess it seems that the Vikings are much different team this season. Many people would think that the Vikes are a top 5 team this team that has the ability to contend.
King has the Vikes listed at 13, that is correct I did not mistype. Here are team ahead of us 1-12, Green Bay, San Diego, Baltimore, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Miami, NY Jets, Carolina, NY Giants, Dallas, Seattle and Pittsburgh.
In King defense, he stated that is is not that great preseason predictor of a teams success. Really he could have fooled me.He picked the Bears to make the Super Bowl last season last season and the Saints to barely make it out of the basement of their division.
I do not claim to be an expert with Power Rankings, but I do call people out when they make a bogus prediction. So this is one of those times right now.
Some of the teams yes, they might be better than the Vikes. I do not think there is no 12 teams superior to the Vikes in 2010. This is going to be another disappointing season for King's preseason Power Rankings. The concerns I have for the Vikes are the DB's and the likely suspensions of the Williams Wall. Those are the areas that are questionable this season and will make or break the Vikes this season. There may be a reason why he is a Monday Morning QB rather than a Sunday NFL Analyst.
How accurate do you guys think the Power Rankings are for King?

Faveing The Tales in Ankleing
The Vikings are now in the seat that the Pacers were for how many years on media frenzy and indecisiveness of the future Hall Of Famer Brett Favre.
Brett has done it again this season a way to keep every media sector in the known universe(I am including Pluto as well) to talk about him one way or another. So now it looks like the ankle will be the talk from the media ALL SUMMER LONG....I cannot hardly wait for that.
I had a previous post about that I think about Favre's possibility return in the purple. Jazz over at the Viking Ship has also posted his thoughts in the "situation" as well.
I think that he had the "minor" surgery on his ankle already.People think it would be easier for Chilly to excuse Brett from training camp. The problem with that is that is not the Media King's way. Like last season did not tell a sole outside of his household(maybe).
There will be more to about the Ankleing Story from this blog over the summer. I will report something about the ankle much like LeBrons Elbow.

TOP 5 THINGS THE VIKINGS NEED TO IMPROVE ON IN 2010
Hey Vikings Fans!
I'm The Jazzy One (my mother calls me Jason, though). I write for a blog called The Viking Ship (http://www.thevikingship.net). GBNordic has given me the opportunity to write a post here at Viking Nation, which I really appreciate.
I wanted to take a minute and discuss what I think are the top 5 things that the Vikings need to improve on in the 2010 season.
5. Preparing for Night Games
I don't know what the deal was with the Vikings, but down the stretch last year they couldn't play at night. They did fine in their first night game against Green Bay in Week 4, but by the time Week 11 rolled around, they looked like they were lost if their game was later than noon. In Week 13 they were crushed by the Cardinals in a night game. They played fine in a day time game the next week against the Bengals, but in Week 15 they had to play a night game again, getting embarrassed by the Carolina Panthers. In Week 16 they had another night game, making a HUGE second half comeback to avoid embarrassment, but ultimately losing in overtime to the Chicago Bears. Week 17 they played a day game and won, their first playoff game against the Cowboys was a day game, and they won... then the NFC Championship game was again at night... and we all know what happened there.
The only afternoon game that the Vikings lost all was in Pittsburgh in week 7. The only night game they won was a Monday Night Football game hosting the Packers in week 4.
I know players like routine, and a lot of players have expressed not liking games that aren't at the times they are accustomed to, but the Vikings staff needs to make sure we don't have a repeat performance of last year's night-game-crumbles.
4. Adjusting and Adapting to Blitzes and Pass Rushes
A couple times last year, notably in the Carolina game in week 15 and the NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints, Favre took a beating for the entire game, and the coaches didn't seem to do anything to adjust.
Well, I take that back. In the Panthers game, the Vikings benched Bryant McKinnie. That was their idea of adjusting.
I'm not a huge Bryant McKinnie fan by any means, but Julius Peppers was having a great night. If McKinnie couldn't block him 1 on 1, Hicks or any of the guys on the bench were going to struggle, too. Childress and Bevell should've recognized that and given McKinnie some help... moved a tight end to that side, had a running back ready to chip him. But they didn't do any of that. Instead they let Peppers have his way, and the Vikings ended up losing the game.
This year we'll be playing Peppers, who is with the Bears, TWO times. We'll be playing the Saints again. We'll be playing the Eagles who like to throw a lot of blitzes at their opponents. We'll be playing the Giants, who although the Vikings have beaten them a lot recently, like to stock pile defensive linemen. If a protection scheme isn't working on a particular week, the Vikings need to adjust much better than they did last year.
3. Creative offensive formations
Last year it drove me nuts that the Vikings rarely put Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson on the field at the same time.
I loved it when they did creative things to keep the other team guessing, liking motioning their running backs out wide, motioning Shiancoe out wide, motioning Harvin INTO the backfield, etc. This year Harvin will have another year of experience, and the Vikings are adding another versatile player in Toby Gerhart.
The Vikings need to take advantage of athletic players and move them around the field more to create mismatches.
To their credit, the Vikings coaching staff DID get a lot better in 2009 at being creative compared to the previous 3 years, but I still think they could improve. There were still too many times that a hack like me could sit on the couch and read what the offense was doing. If I can do it, then most NFL defensive players could do it with one eye tied behind their back (or something like that).
2. Open field tackling
For a good portion of the year the Vikings were decent at open field tackling, but when Antoine Winfield got hurt, it seemed like a lot of the defensive players who had been good all year long suddenly forgot how to wrap a player up.
I understand the concept of Winfield being a leader out there on the defense, but these guys are professionals. The lack of one player, no matter how much of a leader, should not lead to them getting less aggressive and forgetting the fundamentals of tackling.
This season the Vikings could be seeing several backups having to cover some starting roles early, specifically at corner and linebacker. Everyone needs to make sure that they're making good solid tackles and hitting hard.
1. Run blocking
When Matt Birk left, the Vikings run blocking took a big hit. They were not creating the same kinds of holes for Peterson and Taylor last year that they were in the previous couple of years. With a passing threat like Favre playing quarterback for the Vikings, the running game should have gotten easier, but Peterson was stuck behind the line more often than any other running back in the NFL in 2009. What that means: no holes. The offensive line wasn't creating any space for Adrian Peterson to do his thing.
I personally believe that the main problem lies in John Sullivan. There were only two changes on the offensive line... Sullivan taking over for Birk and Loadholt taking over for Cook. I KNOW that Loadholt is an improvement over Ryan Cook, so that leaves Sullivan.
The weak spots on the offensive going into 2010 are Sullivan and Herrera (at Right Guard). If those two can step up and make an improvement (or be replaced by someone else who can), it would go a long way in making the Vikings unstoppable in the coming season!
What do you guys think are the areas that the Vikings need to improve?

More Stadium Thoughts
I just finished watching the 30 for 30 episode, Straight Outta L.A, directed by Ice Cube. I have been watching quite a bit of the documentaries, but this one sure does hit home pretty hard. If any of you watched it I am not taking about rap revolution. I am talking more on the line with the team up and moving to LA.
With the Vikings as an organization have been wanting a new stadium for a while now(2004). I am afraid if they do not get an agreement reach an agreement with the Minnesota State House panel then the Vikings will start searching elsewhere. The lease on the current stadium end in 2011. I am thinking this year is get err done(Win a Super Bowl) or the Vikes may be packing up and be in the same city as the old Minneapolis Lakers.
The Vikings owner Zygi Wilf has stated in the past his development plans. Wilf want to try to develop the downtown Minneapolis area with the new stadium. The plan included substantial improvements to the surrounding area, including an improved light rail stop, 4,500 residential units, hotels with a combined 270 rooms, 1,700,000 square feet of office space and substantial retail space. Wilf's Vikings began acquiring significant land holdings in the Downtown East neighborhood around the Metrodome in June 2007, the Vikings acquired four blocks of mostly empty land surrounding the Star Tribune headquarters from Avista Capital Partners for $45 million; it is also believed the Vikings have first right of refusal to later buy the paper's headquarters building.
One of the only ways to keep a team at the current location is by winning and Viking have done that throughout it years. Overall winning percentage put them at 5th overall(behind Cowboys, Dolphins, Bears and Packers). Of the top 5 they are the only team that does not have a Lombardi Trophy in its possession.I am hoping for a change in that department this season.
There has been so many fans trying so hard to persuade the state to keep the Vikings in Minnesota. Fans in the state of Minnesota have been down this road before 2 Pro teams to hotter markets(Lakers and North Stars) than Minnesota. If this was to happen where would the storied rivalries go.
With the state of Minnesota weighing its options if they can support two new Professional Sports stadium in a smaller market will be seen in the near future. Will the Viking relocate to LA if the state does give them a new stadium?

Williams Wall Suspension Tidbit
I was reading on PFT and an article caught my eye. It could be likely that the NFL could in fact suspend one player at a time. So this would mean the Vikes would be down the two starting defensive tackles for eight games with four game suspension a piece. Why would the league impose the suspension this way? I can see the league doing this so that the team is not down both of their star players at the same time.
With Albert Haynesworth voicing his interest in becoming a Viking. This could be an avenue that the Vikes would explore if this does in fact happen. This season there is no salary cap, so there would be no worries about going over the league salary cap. Pat Williams was pending retirement this past offseason at age 37. Haynesworth would be perfect for the Vikes 4-3 defense and does not really fit in the Redskins 3-4 defense transformation. The 'Skins want Haynesworth to be a nose tackle and he wants to remain a three-technique in a 4-3.
It will all depend on the suspends if and when the Wall would serve them. I think the Vikes could refuel talks with the sub 30 year old Haynesworth depending on the suspension structure.

Williams Wall Defeated
A Minnesota Judge sided with the NFL, they do have the right to suspend the Williams Wall 4 games each. This case will never end it seems like, everyone knows that the Wall will be appealing this decision. As it would stand right now the players would miss the 1st 4 games of the season: New Orleans, Miami, Detroit, and the NY Jets. If the Williams do miss these games, it is probable the Vikes would start the season 2-2 or even 1-3. It may be a bad start, but I am sure the Vikes could bounce back from this, the Wall would take the ruling. I do not see this happening.
Over at the Viking Ship, Jazz brought up an interesting point about the Suspensions. If Pat and Kevin Williams would have served it last season the Vikes still more than likely started 4-0 anyways with the lax teams that they faced in the beginning of the season.
I am with so many fans out there way keep fighting something is going to happen anyways. If this keeps up maybe the Wall will be suspended that the Vikes need them more during the grind or the season where the defense needs them the most. Just take the suspensions serve for game and come back and stop the opponents running game.

Stadium Bill Shut Down
I am by far way out of the loop when it comes to the Vikes efforts in building a new stadium. There was so much buzz around the state capital over the past two days with the bipartisan. The bill will strong enough to make it past one committee vote. On Wednesday when a House Committee defeated the bill by a 9-10 vote.
Right now at least it is not in best interested of the State of Minnesota to build the Vikings a new stadium with the taxpayers money just yet. It looks like the governor figures that the state does not need to pay off another stadium with the Twins playing in their new outdoor field this season.
So far at least it does not look good for the Viking in getting a new state of the art stadium. I am not one to say the Vikes should get financing for the stadium considering I do not even live in the state. I was bad enough that I had to pay the extra tax when the Packers were doing their renovations on Lambeau Field. It is truly hard to see the state granting the Vikes a new stadium build at this point in time. I for one just hope that the Vikes will not be the finalist for the new team talks in LA. If Favre returns can be keep the Vikes in Minnesota with a new stadium?

Favre Watch 2010: Version 5.4
It looks like Favre supposedly told someone that he is 100% sure he is going to retire. I am with UK and think that the ESPN(the world leader in bogus sporting news) is getting bored in the football department. Just think if this took like 5-10 years ago, I can guarantee that this would not have happened with L-O-N-G drawn out post draft offseasons of what Favre is going to do. Why do I say this?
This is because ESPN is doing Favre a favor keeping him where he loves to be in the spotlight. He has been the spotlight player since 1st game as a Green Bay Packer. He is a great player and all, but he sure does love to be the center of attention.
Being behind enemy lines the Packer fans just laugh about this offseason. The Packer fans and I both knew that this was going to happen once again this offseason. The Favre indecision to come back or not is always a good time when you have nothing else to do. As I said in an earlier post, I am certain that he will be back under center come September 9th.
