With the Vikes 27-24(OT) win over the Cards on Sunday was not much of a surprise. In this game it was much like the season has been going so far in 2010, up and down. With the heroics of Brett Favre and the receivers with 3 minutes and change left in the 4th quarter to comeback from a 14 point deficit. Favre had his more passing yards in a game for his career. His second 4oo yards passing performance, his last was when Percy Harvin was 5 years old.
The Cards capitalized from the Viking mistakes in this one, a Harvin fumble for a AZ TD and a kickoff for a TD. The Arizona offense was not all that great. With the Vikes finally started to apply pressure Derek Anderson was helpless under center getting sacked 6 times. Yeah that is right coming into the game that is how many sacks the Vikes had ALL season.
With this win it puts some ice in the fire for the hot seat that Chilly is currently sitting on. With the firing of Wade Phillips, now the Vikes have the worst and most ridiculous coach in the NFL. Now barring a complete turnaround. This should be the final season for Chilly. It looks like the status will be week-to-week on his job status.
If I were Chilly I would be thanking my lucky stars that Favre had the game that he did. He and Wade would be in the unemployment line right now.

What Did We Learn Moday Night?
The defense kept us in the entire game. It is obvious that the Vikes have a Super Bowl caliber defense. With the ACL injury to CB Cedric Griffin. It will be interesting to see who will be filling that role the best. My bet will be Sanford or Cook.
Now if the offense mainly the QB could be playing at the same level as the defense the Vikes would be in great shape. The way that Favre played in the 2.5 quarter was horrendous. He could not hit the open receiver. So far in the season that had so much promise for the Vikes has been nothing, but heartbreak. He missed MULTIPLE open receivers throughout the game. There is a reason, why he has one of his worst passing percent game even in his career.
The Vikes have all the weapons in Moss, Harvin and of course Peterson the run with the big boys. The question is can Favre use all the weapon instead to overshooting the receiver. That will remain to be seen.
Can the Vikes get over the hump and not lose another close game next week against the Cowboys @home?

Who Will Strike First
With the news that the Saints DC Gregg Williams' interview has been delayed. I would be shocked if Sean Peyton allows Williams to talk at all. Considering in training camp Williams said that starting will this game, he want to send a message. The message of course is the "remember me hit".
The last think that Peyton wants is that Vikes defense crippling the Saints QB Drew Brees. With what the Saint Defense did to Favre last season. I think Frazier will be blitzing Brees like white on rice.
Many people believe that Favre came back, especially for this game that it to take place on Thursday against the Saints. With the beating he took against the Saints in the NFC Championship game. I bet that it will be a keep point that the offensive line to Favre in this game.
The fans do not want to see T-Joke on the field in any point of the season to start a game unless the Vikes have the division all wrapped up. We will all see if Favre still has the magic that he had most of last season.

Preseason Test
All over the NFL, is that the third preseason game is where the starters will be playing the most of all the preseason games. I thought that the offense preformed well in their test.
I know that there will be many of whom wondering about Favre throwing 2 INTs in the game and no TDs. One of those INTs was a good play by the Seattle DB and he went the distance. Favre also seemed like that he worried about getting Walker the ball to give him enough looks for the coaching staff to have a true evaluation of him.
The Viking receivers also have shown that they can be sure handed in 3 down and long situations. Camarillo, Percy Harvin, and Visanthe Shiancoe all will be great options for Favre. It looks like the Vikes did well trying the find receivers this past week to get into the last preseason games.
What is there to say about the defense in this game. Every unit was great against the Seahawks last night. The Vikes defense gave up 2 FGs in the game. The Vikes have plenty of depth on that side of the ball. The questions that remain are who will be left out of the 53 man final roster?
Overall, I think the Vikes performed at a B- grade for the game. I just cannot wait til Sept 9th!!!!
SKOL VIKINGS!!!!! Revenge my friend.

What We Learned in Preseason Game #2
There were some things that we Viking fans did learn in the preseason game #2. It is so hard to cheer for your team in the preseason. I know it is football after all, but it is NOT the same as the season. We Viking fans know in the end it does not matter who wins or loses in these games.
One thing that we learned, is that the Vikes offensive line needs to learn how to block a little better. Man just look at Willis and company planting Favre to the turf. I bet that Chilly was holding his breath after that hit. Favre was on the field for a grand total for 4 plays and that was all he needed. I am hoping that the line was do a better just in pass and run blocking the next game. If not it many be a LONG season for Favre and the Vikings.
The Vikes need to keep Joe Webb on the team no matter what it take. If Webb is unable to beat out Sage for the #3 QB spot. Put him at WR/RB spot or something. There is no way that he will be available to Vikes as a practice squad dummy. He has to much talent for other team to pass up on him. He is a stud, he has the athletic ability and instincts that you are looking for in a football player. Here is Webb running for a 48 yard TD.
I am hoping that EJ is in football shape. He looked a little rusty in last nights game, but that was expected with this being his 1st real action since his injury. He may need some work on his pass coverage, because the TEs were getting behind him to get the first downs the offense needs to continue the drives.
Overall it was an okay game, but the Vikes last 15-0 in the end. Just remember 2 more games of worthless football and then the fun starts...oh yeah and the ulcers.

Saints Defensive Coordinator Still Talking
With every team well most of em at least in the NFL in training and thinking they all off a shot for a championship, it is time to get your team fired up. Well the Saints Defensive Coordinator(Captain Cheapshot) is talking already about sending a message already for the 2010 season.
I do not think ANY Viking fan will ever forget the 2009 NFC Championship game with what the Saints did to Favre. They did not get to many sack, but they sure did bruise him up with laid hits and missed calls. It is what it is.
Just think before that game, I did not mind the 'aints well not anymore that is for certain. Williams says that the Saints will be starting with #4 with hits to remember. If i were Sean Payton, I would get a muzzle for this guy. Williams is giving the Vikes more to get gear up for the Week 1 rematch.
It is a new season for the Vikes and I think they will have a message to send themselves. With the Saints trying to KO Brett out of football for good. If I were Drew Brees. I would be nervous about the Vikes talking out some revenge on me. Especially Jared Allen breathing down my neck.
So with the comments from Captain Cheapshot happening already. Do you think that this will hurt the Saints pass happy offense?

Good One Steve
With the spectacle every training camp, involving Favre pending retirement. With what Steve Mariucci said on ESPN Chicago was a knee slapper. He says. "Fave hates the attention." I am not that sure how many people would agree with this statement.
Of course, Favre puts off the media then he will be talked about even more. Favre always leaves a loop hole in whatever he said in "retirement talks." I am sure that the ankle is not 100 percent, but Favre has played through worse that this.
All I can say is this see you between Week 2 or 3 of the preseason Brett.

Cook Getting Sick Of Brett
A recent report that Brett Fave's agent Bus Cook has had enough of his offseason drama. So it looks like the only one that is enjoying the spot light is of course Brett Favre. We the fans have been dealing Favre's retirement considerations since 2006. Man it does seem longer than 2006.
Here are some quotes from Cook off Mens Journal:
I think now with these quote being released so many more people will be swarming to get their hands on this issue. This does not shock me that Fave's agent finally had his melt down.
So now after this new Cook better be watching his back. He has spoken out against the family. Will Bus Cook have to pay for his words. Or is this just anything ploy to Favre add to his need for attention.

Here are some quotes from Cook off Mens Journal:
“Brett talked to goddamned Ed Werder at ESPN, says he needs ankle surgery. Now why did he do that?” Cook asked. “I’ve got Childress calling. I’ve got reporters calling all damn morning. Goddammit, why does he have to be such a goddamned drama queen? Play, don’t play, goddamn, people are getting sick of it. I’m getting sick of it!
“Why does he have to talk to these people? What good does it do? Ed Werder at ESPN! What’s he ever done for anybody other than say, ‘Look, look, Mommy, I got this first, ain’t I special?’ You got problems with surgery, talk to your wife. Why talk to goddamned Ed Werder?”

Favre Watch 2010: Update
In the continuation of Favre Watch 2010. Everyone knows that Favre will be making a decision SOON...please. With so many people thinking that they know what he Favre is going to do.
There is a problem in this theory, nobody really knows. So many people just guess. It is Favre's plan to give out enough info to get his name out there. In the same event, to not give out to much info so people cannot assume anything.
The Hillbilly hurler has made another announcement in Men's Journal. Here is an excerpt from the upcoming magazine:
I for one am convinced he will be back this 2010 season. I had to deal with this close up when he was with the Packers on the daily news for how many straight seasons. This is just another way Favre can increase his self-ego, so he can now hear his name being talked about. What is a year without a Favre Watch?

The Hillbilly hurler has made another announcement in Men's Journal. Here is an excerpt from the upcoming magazine:
Favre talked about the fun he had last season, which was arguably the best of his career. He threw 33 touchdown passes and only seven interceptions. "I’ve had games when I almost threw seven picks,” Favre told Rodrick, laughing. “It was unreal. Before last year, I’d reached a point where I was sitting in meetings with guys 15 years younger than me thinking, What the hell am I doing here? Football became work. But last year it went back to being a game.”

Nice To Know
I am glad that Brett Favre asked Tarvaris Jackson. I guess it looks like Brett Favre is permitted to miss training camp according the T-Jack. I was so worried that it was not going to be okay that Favre was not going to be there in the first place.
I think that Jackson needs to get all the reps he needs to hold off Joe Webb.Jackson is so focused on being the starter again, but that is not going to be happening barring Favre throwing a slider. I think that it will be Webb vs Jackson in camp will ability prevail over "experience." We shall see that is the coming weeks.
Until then..SKOL VIKINGS!!!!

Not Even In Afghanistan
With the Vikings coach being one of four coaches in Afghanistan. He is part of a USO tour, and is getting the same kind of questions that receives constantly back home. That is as everyone across the country has been pay attention to is:
Is Brett Favre Coming back?
I think that this is kind of funny with what is going on over there. One would tend to think that there would be more on a persons mind than wondering about Brett Favre.
Speaking of Favre, he did what he did last season made his appearance with Oak Grove High School to threw passes and my sources say that everything look great.Favre made occasional appearances ever since the quarterback underwent ankle surgery in May.
Glad to see that a man to made 13 mil next season is practicing with high schooler again this season. With the talk about him being on the back burner for a couple of moments. So far that is all about Favre, but another month we will be find out the truth about Favre.

Favre Watch 2010: Update
Brett Favre spoke not once, but twice this wee. By this much be some sort of a holiday this week to get this kind of coverage. Early this week, Favre told Al Jones of the Biloxi Sun-Herald that "I would love to go beat the Saints." It seems that Favre is workout out pretty regulary, like bike eight miles a day. When I saw that I was like holy crap, that is pretty good for a 40 year old. What is he doing getting ready for the 2011 Tour De France. Everyone knows that Favre WANTS to repay the Saints a visit to what they did not him last season in the NFC Title Game. With the Saints defense trying to kill Favre with the remember me hit. I am sure that Favre will remember them alright. I have been among the many Viking bloggers that is so sure that Favre will be back in purple for Season number 20.
With this statement, everyone was so sure that he was undoubtedly coming back. He issued this statement to Al Jones again. It stated that he has no clue if he was coming back. He claims he would like to know. What does that mean? Is this the onset of a multipersonality disorder.
It is more than likely that Favre has told the front office about his plans this season, the team as a whole does not know just yet.If Favre would have told the Vikes that he was coming back right away, I for one would have been kind of nervous.
So let the speculation continue for at least another month and half, it sure will be a fun ride.

Favre Is Still Not Talking
With Brett still trying to keep everything quiet about his ankle surgery. As everyone expected him not to stay anything for another couple of months. But the doctors are talking about his ankle surgery though.
Noted surgeon James Andrews told the Associated Press that Favre's surgery went well and the quarterback has a few more weeks of rehabilitation before he will decide if he will return for a 20th season in the NFL.I still think that Chilly knows that Favre will be back for his 20th season as a QB. With the kind of a season that he had last year, he will be back in the Beloved Purple.I still say Favre will miss the first 2 preseason game and ta-da the knight in armor will come the Vikes with average QB staff at best.

Faveing The Tales in Ankleing
The Vikings are now in the seat that the Pacers were for how many years on media frenzy and indecisiveness of the future Hall Of Famer Brett Favre.
Brett has done it again this season a way to keep every media sector in the known universe(I am including Pluto as well) to talk about him one way or another. So now it looks like the ankle will be the talk from the media ALL SUMMER LONG....I cannot hardly wait for that.
I had a previous post about that I think about Favre's possibility return in the purple. Jazz over at the Viking Ship has also posted his thoughts in the "situation" as well.
I think that he had the "minor" surgery on his ankle already.People think it would be easier for Chilly to excuse Brett from training camp. The problem with that is that is not the Media King's way. Like last season did not tell a sole outside of his household(maybe).
There will be more to about the Ankleing Story from this blog over the summer. I will report something about the ankle much like LeBrons Elbow.

Favre Watch 2010: Update
There was news out there is that the swelling in Favre's injured has yet to go down. Favre is pondering another off season on whether or not he should return to another season.According to da ESPN, the celebrity doctor (Dr. James Andrews) has advised Favre that he surgery is unavoidable. Dr. Andrews has came to this conclusion Favre sent his scans on his ankle and to determine why healing had not occurred.
After hearing this news how long will Favre wait to get the surgery. He will try to get it so that Favre will be available for 3rd preseason game. I think that it is funny especially that this news broke right around when the OTAs(Organized team activities) are coming into full swing.. As expected it seems like Favre will another training camp this season. What a shocker huh.
I do not think that fans should ponder if Favre will be back, it will be more like when will he be back in action with our beloved purple.

No Question About It
With the draft all over and Viking drafting staff id a BIG FAT ok in my book. There is one position in particular that the Vikes did not pay much attention to. The QB position of course. The media is already trying to stir up a debate on whether or not Brett The Grey Fox will play his 20th season. The Vikes had the chance to draft Jimmy" the brat" Clausen. I am among many hoping that the Vikes would go after Clausen, at #34. It look like the Vikes did not feel the might wrath of Grandpa Brett's hand. The Vikes did not draft a "QB" more like a WR in the late rounds. Now we will have the annual Favre watch, so then the media has something to talk about.
With this move the Vikes have known all along that Brett will be back in the beloved purple and another year to piss off Packer fans that once loved him. Being in the middle of Favre Gate, my wife and I thought was hilarious to see a town turn on a player like Green Bay fans did.
Last season Brett had by far the best statical year in his career and I hope for most of the same. Is this going to be the year to shut to mouths of all these Packer fan, please I hope so.

Grandpa Gunsliger
The news broke Saturday or Sunday about Brett Favre. It did not involve, if Brett would be coming back or not.Way to early for those thoughts. The news was that he was going to be a grandpa. Favre announced on his site, on Friday when his 21-year-old daughter, Brittany, gave birth to a 7-pound, 7-ounce boy named Parker Brett.
After becoming a grandpa now Favre feels old. After being in a game over 10 years of service is getting up there. Favre is considering on his 20th year. The NFL is researching to see if Favre is the 1st ever grandpa to play the game.
Here is a quote from Favre:

Favre Watch 2010:Brett Makes An Announcement
With Favre coming off his best statical year EVER in his NFL career. At the end of the season, he CLAIMED that he would not make this into the drama everybody knows that he loves. He made an annoucement on his website,Favre thanks his fans for a "memorable season," and goes on to say that, "while the season didn't end in Miami as we had all hoped, I couldn't have enjoyed this season any more than I did."
Of course, he did not say anything about his future in the NFL. Now isn't that a shocker. In my opinion, he was so close to just walk away from this game. Now this makes the start of Favre watch of 2010.

Retire or Comeback For Season 20
Now the Vikings will be waiting it out to see if Favre is going to comeback or retire. For now he is going to make everyone wait, but forhow long is the next question. The Vikings head coach Brad Childress also stated this past week that he is not going to have a time line for Favre as the Packer were doing in his final 2 season in he green and gold. I just do not feel that Favre will be back for another season as a Viking.
Why would he come back in the 2010 season?
Brett Favre is coming off his best statical year ever as a QB. That is correct, with all the records that he hold it was a magical season in 2009 for Brett Favre. Since becoming a starting QB Favre has never thrown less that 13 INTS in a season in 2009 Favre threw a total of 7. He had a 1.4 interception percentage. Making fewer mistakes also led to some triumphs as well. He had 33 TDs also well passing for over 4,000 yards(the 6th time in his career).
It is not just about stats, he can still led a team. The Vikes lived and died behind the 40 year old arm of Brett Favre. The Vikes were a run first offense to start the season. It was not until Week 3 when Favre led the Vikes with a last second victory against the 49ers at home. The Vikes were content with Favre being a game manager. After the Week 3 win, everyone then knew that Favre would play a bigger role than what was originally expected of him. It was obvious that Favre is a good play caller down the stretch of the season.
With the way that Favre was battered around in the NFC Championship last. I know that there are so many people thinking,"He is 40 years old. Is Brett sure he wants to keep up the torture." I do not not know.Minnesota is where Favre want to be rather than where Green Bay traded him to the Jets.Favre has a mission and that is that he wants more than anything to go out the way that Elway or Bettis went out by going and winning the Super Bowl. So that is what would make it complete for Favre.
Why does Favre not return for the 2010 season?
With the way that Favre was treated against the Saints as a human punching bag was not good answer. He is already the oldest starting QB to win a playoff game at age 40 and whatever days. He is going to be 41 next season. What is a year in the NFL? Nothing is a guarantee, especially when it comes to making the playoffs or Super Bowl for that matter. The schedule is not as favorable as the 2009 season was. The Vikes will be facing 7 playoff teams from this past season and 5 will be on the road. Who knows if this will play into Favre's decision to return of not.
Brad Childress and the Minnesota Viking have already stated that Favre does not have a time limit for a choice to return for another season as the Vikes starting QB. With Favre who really knows what is going through his head besides to try to avoid training camp again since the end of the Holmgren era of Green Bay.

Favre A Viking

No this is not a dream.
So it is true, Brett Favre a Minnesota Vikings. It is just so weird to say that, but what does this solve for the long-term future at the QB position. This is going to be a one year possibly two(I would not count on that). So if he does to lead the Vikings conquest to the promise land and win the Super Bowl then what. Where does this lead the Vikings?
I think that Favre will make the Vikes a better team. How do I come to this conclusion? The Vikes will not have to rely on the passing game to win games this season. All the Vikes need is a QB that can manage the game and win more than he loses. In this move, all Vikes need to do is to keep the defense honest against the run. In Favre, we are going to trust to do this and not throw away games.
In the passing game, he has a pretty speedy receiving corps to work with. Berrian , Rice and Harvin are deep threats that the defense will have to content with. Can Favre make those long throws week 1 to week 17 and beyond.
At the end of the season, we(Viking fans) will see if this gambling is going to be worth it at the end. Or will it be another lost season for the Vikes?
