In the draft so many people have not even heard of Chris Cook. Now with the news that he will in all likelihood be missing the opener against the Saints. This is because he suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee Saturday in the Vikings' preseason victory over Seattle.
Cook was performing great in the preseason games. He has a nose for the ball and was tackling well, something that Vikings DBs have struggled with in recent years. Cook was the leading man the start at the CB spot opposite of Antonie.
This news is especially hard, because the Vikes just traded away veteran DB Benny Sapp in exchange for wide receiver Greg Camarillo. It will be something to see what the Vikes do with their depth chart now for the Defensive Backs.
Cook sure has impressed me so far, but I guess I will have to wait a bit til the fans will see him again.

Preseason Test
All over the NFL, is that the third preseason game is where the starters will be playing the most of all the preseason games. I thought that the offense preformed well in their test.
I know that there will be many of whom wondering about Favre throwing 2 INTs in the game and no TDs. One of those INTs was a good play by the Seattle DB and he went the distance. Favre also seemed like that he worried about getting Walker the ball to give him enough looks for the coaching staff to have a true evaluation of him.
The Viking receivers also have shown that they can be sure handed in 3 down and long situations. Camarillo, Percy Harvin, and Visanthe Shiancoe all will be great options for Favre. It looks like the Vikes did well trying the find receivers this past week to get into the last preseason games.
What is there to say about the defense in this game. Every unit was great against the Seahawks last night. The Vikes defense gave up 2 FGs in the game. The Vikes have plenty of depth on that side of the ball. The questions that remain are who will be left out of the 53 man final roster?
Overall, I think the Vikes performed at a B- grade for the game. I just cannot wait til Sept 9th!!!!
SKOL VIKINGS!!!!! Revenge my friend.

The Corps In Question
With the Vikings finding out earlier this week that they will be without their #1 Wide Receiver Sidney Rice for half the season. Since then the Vikes have picked up 2 brand new receivers Javon Walker and Greg Camarillo. It will be interesting to see how these guys can contribute to the tream. As of right now I have my money on Greg Camarillo. I do not think that this will have any affect on Favre. If the receiver is open he will throw to him as easy as that. We will find out more tonight in the game, because this is where the starters will actually play a full half.
It sounds like that most of the starters will be playing a little bit. Many of the starters have been easing into the preseason, especially some of the bet besides Favre.
In other Viking news the Vikes will be taking a closer look to see of Chris Cook should be considered for the starting CB oppsong Winfield.

Benny Sapp Is Now A Dolphin
Image via Wikipedia
The Vikes did not wait around to long did they. After finding out that they would be without Sid Rice and issues that Harvin has had ALL offseason. The Vikes sure getting their hands on some decent receivers.
The Vikings have acquired Greg Camarillo from the Miami Dolphins for CB Benny Sapp. Camarillo, 6-1, 190 pounds, played college football at Stanford and was signed by San Diego as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played the 2006 season with San Diego before being claimed off waivers by the Dolphins in September 2007. He caught eight passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games that season. He had a career-high 55 receptions for 613 yards and two touchdown in 2008 playing in 11 games before tearing his ACL and last season caught 50 passes for 552 yards in 16 games.
I think that this is a good deal for the Vikings to make. Benny Sapp did not have much of a chance in making the team in first place. The Vikes thought might as well get something for Sapp before they cut him loose. It looks like that Camarillo will be competing with Greg Lewis for the #3 WR job. The best of luck to Benny Sapp see you in the regular season.

News Not Good For Favre
Image via Wikipedia
The sourced today that Sidney Rice, FINALLY received hip surgery in Colorado on Monday. It looks like that he will miss half, yes you read that correctly half the season. It sure is not going that great in the reciving corps so far in the season. First, the issues with Harvin and now this.
Brett Favre sure did find a liking to Rice last season. So it looks like Favre will have to find another receiver for the first half of this season as his go to guy.
Well maybe Chilly and company, so know what they are doing after all. on monday the team signed former Packer Javon Walker. Walker had his best years in Green Bay with Favre as the QB. Will Walker be able to help the Vikes continue to stride forward without skipping a beat? If interested here are Walkers career stats. I hope that his knees can hold up throughout the season, if he can make it to that point.
I just wish Rice would have fixes this problem a little soon. Now what do I because Rice is on the fantasy team. Do I keep him or cut?
Nothing comes easy to Vikes does, now we will see how everything plays out for the rest of preseason and the start of the season.

What We Learned in Preseason Game #2
There were some things that we Viking fans did learn in the preseason game #2. It is so hard to cheer for your team in the preseason. I know it is football after all, but it is NOT the same as the season. We Viking fans know in the end it does not matter who wins or loses in these games.
One thing that we learned, is that the Vikes offensive line needs to learn how to block a little better. Man just look at Willis and company planting Favre to the turf. I bet that Chilly was holding his breath after that hit. Favre was on the field for a grand total for 4 plays and that was all he needed. I am hoping that the line was do a better just in pass and run blocking the next game. If not it many be a LONG season for Favre and the Vikings.
The Vikes need to keep Joe Webb on the team no matter what it take. If Webb is unable to beat out Sage for the #3 QB spot. Put him at WR/RB spot or something. There is no way that he will be available to Vikes as a practice squad dummy. He has to much talent for other team to pass up on him. He is a stud, he has the athletic ability and instincts that you are looking for in a football player. Here is Webb running for a 48 yard TD.
I am hoping that EJ is in football shape. He looked a little rusty in last nights game, but that was expected with this being his 1st real action since his injury. He may need some work on his pass coverage, because the TEs were getting behind him to get the first downs the offense needs to continue the drives.
Overall it was an okay game, but the Vikes last 15-0 in the end. Just remember 2 more games of worthless football and then the fun starts...oh yeah and the ulcers.

Favre To Play
The Viking announced that the starts will play for the 1st quarter in the contest against the 49ers on Sunday Night. It looks like Favre might break a seat in this game and AD will get a carry and maybe two as well.
I would be shocked to see Harvin suit up on Sunday and Sid the Kid is expected to miss this preseason game as well. It look like Favre will be throwing it to Berrian and the reserves.
I will be interesting considering that next week is the dress rehearsal for the NFL Week 3 of the preseason.
Some things to keep an eye out for:

Some things to keep an eye out for:
- Will Sage shine again in the #3 QB battle as he did last week?
- Is Albert Young going to be the #3 running back on this team, meaning getting 4 carries all season?
- Who will seperate themselves from the group as the #4 reciever?

Is More Going On With Harvin?
Image via Wikipedia
I think that maybe there was a reason why Harvin dropped down the board to number 22. It must not have been his so called positive drug test at the combine. I think that it had something to do with Harvin life long struggle with migraines.
With the recent report that he collapsed at practice and was taken away with an ambulance. Harvin missed most if not all training camp with his migraines. He will be spending the night at the local hospital, in which i think is going to be a good thing.
Now i would be shocked if we see Harvin at all until Week 1 of the regular season. If I were the Vikes I would in CODE RED concerned with Harvin's status. Everyone thought that his migraines would not be as bad this offseason.
I have never had to deal with migraines personally. But my wife goes get them and when she does they can be debilitating. I know it must be serious when you are taken to the hospital over a migraine.
I am hoping Percy a fast and safe recovery. I just hope that there is not more going on with Harvin then just this.

Favre Watch 2010: He Is in Minnesota
Now take a look at what happens when I am away from the computer for a day geeez. There were so many rumors flying earlier today about Favre and Vikings.
Today, I guess Jared Allen, Ryan Longwell, and Steve Hutchinson reportedly headed to Mississippi to talk with Brett Favre. The Vikes sent the trio to Favre's house to either bring him back or wish him well in retirement. After a LONG talk with Favre, the posse headed to the airport to finally come to Minnesota.
I do think that everyone knows that Favre is going to be back wearing his number 4 for the Vikes this season. Favre being Favre has to drag it out for another 24+ hours to keep people on edge. There is going to be an official announcement after the first practice tomorrow At about 11:40 am.
This is what I have been telling all Packer fans around here that he will be back at about Week 2 or 3 in the preseason. He has been doing this since...ahh let me see 1998(well it seems like it has been that long at least).
Now the big question is what is ESPN and the NFL network going to talk about with the yearly Favre retirement talks to be put to rest for another season.
I am just hoping now that Favre can match the great season that he had last year.We will have a great sneak peak in Week 3(dress rehearsal) in the preseason on how everything is going for Favre.

What We Learned in Preseason Game #1
With the first preseason game now in the books. There were some lessons that we all learned throughout the game. The first is this IF Favre does not return this season Tarvaris Jackson is our guy. In the game he was treated like a Manning or a Brady in the game. T-Jack played a series or two and that was the night for him.
Speaking of Quarterbacks, Sage Rosenfels completed 23 of 34 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns. He played most of the game until rookie Joe Webb replaced him in the 4th quarter.Web completed 4 of 6 passes for 37 yards and one touchdown

- The battle for the No. 2 running back job didn't provide a lot of clarity. Albert Young got the start but rushed for minus seven yards in six carries. Rookie Toby Gerhart had 24 yards rushing on eight carries.
- Rookie DB Chris Cook forced a fumble on special teams as a gunner. He made an impact in his first NFL game.
- On defense the backups played well in this contest, Erin Henderson, who had six tackles and a sack. Defensive end Jayme Mitchell was impressive, recording two sacks and a pass breakup.

3 Thoughts Of the 1st Preseason Game
Here we are ladies and gentlemen here we are the 1st preseason game just upon us. With the Rams and Vikes facing off against each other. In the preseason it does not matter who wins or loses, it is to see how the players you have right now fair against competition.
Some of the thoughts entering the game would be:
Is Sage going to step up and play let a vet or just get schooled by a rookie QB(Joe Webb)?
Will Lito be showing that he has lost a step as a CB?
Can the Vikes walk away from the game without any significant injuries?
We will all see if the Vikes evaluate the Vikes performance, but it is only preseason after all.

Lito Losing Ground
Image by Getty Images via @daylife
It looks like Sheppard has indeed lost a step or two in the corner back battle. The battle is between Sheppard and Asher Allen. As of right now, Allen is the starting CB on the left side. This is due to a knee injury that starting CB Cedric Griffin sustain in the NFC Championship game. Asher Allen is taking this first depth chart as a grain of salt. He may be impressing the coaches right now, but he cannot keep his guard down. This fight is not even close to being over as of yet.
Lito came to Minnesota to have the best chance to start and bring veteran experience to a secondary that has not been the Vikes strong suite in the past years.Everyone figured that Lito would fill in while Griffin was out with his injury.
It will be something to see how each player performs in the preseason games. It sounds like both player have and will get the same amount of reps with 1dt and 2nd team defenses.
If anyone has any thoughts of this depth chart give a shout out.

Saints Defensive Coordinator Still Talking
With every team well most of em at least in the NFL in training and thinking they all off a shot for a championship, it is time to get your team fired up. Well the Saints Defensive Coordinator(Captain Cheapshot) is talking already about sending a message already for the 2010 season.
I do not think ANY Viking fan will ever forget the 2009 NFC Championship game with what the Saints did to Favre. They did not get to many sack, but they sure did bruise him up with laid hits and missed calls. It is what it is.
Just think before that game, I did not mind the 'aints well not anymore that is for certain. Williams says that the Saints will be starting with #4 with hits to remember. If i were Sean Payton, I would get a muzzle for this guy. Williams is giving the Vikes more to get gear up for the Week 1 rematch.
It is a new season for the Vikes and I think they will have a message to send themselves. With the Saints trying to KO Brett out of football for good. If I were Drew Brees. I would be nervous about the Vikes talking out some revenge on me. Especially Jared Allen breathing down my neck.
So with the comments from Captain Cheapshot happening already. Do you think that this will hurt the Saints pass happy offense?

Good One Steve
With the spectacle every training camp, involving Favre pending retirement. With what Steve Mariucci said on ESPN Chicago was a knee slapper. He says. "Fave hates the attention." I am not that sure how many people would agree with this statement.
Of course, Favre puts off the media then he will be talked about even more. Favre always leaves a loop hole in whatever he said in "retirement talks." I am sure that the ankle is not 100 percent, but Favre has played through worse that this.
All I can say is this see you between Week 2 or 3 of the preseason Brett.

Just Cannot Believe The Fave News
Growing up here in the Green Bay area, the news is just to hard to even believe it. This circus has been going on since 2006. I have been listening to the retirement talk for all to long. Favre got his name out there in the news again, Favre plans to retire, according to sources.
With it pertaining to Favre here is my motto: I will believe it when I see it.. With no offical announcement about his retirement. So just gets me wondering the whole sporting world has been through this before. So why, why to they continue to fall for Favre "indecision."
Is it just Favre's plan to get more money out of the deal. Again, there have been reports offered Favre so he would mane 16 mil a year and 4 mil in incentives. I just hope it would be worth it to be paying all this dough to a 41 year old QB.
I am still sticking to my guns and saying he will be back with the Viking in 2010. Come week one, I still think #4 will be under center instead of #7. All Favre wants is to talked about every waking moment that is all. So here we go with the daily reminders that some sports are over analyzed.
I hope everyone enjoys this. I am going to go and watch some baseball highlight:)

Favre Watch 2010: Favre A Holdout
I was reading PFT this morning, and saw the title,"Uneasiness in Vikings camp over Favre's future." I figured the the players that are now in training camp are getting miffed over the absence of Favre. The fact they have to be out there and sweating buckets at a time.
This was not the case in this instance, it is the people in management that are getting anxious for when Favre will announce if he will be playing this season. So the Vikes will know that everything will be place.
I never thought of it this way either, Favre is technically holdout and is still under contract. The Star Tribune, Favre was placed on the reserve/did not report list. Then some lucky soul will be in camp under Favre parades in town.
Favre is under contract and should be in camp, but everyone on the world expects him not to attend anyway. So what is the big deal of it all. Favre is still playing at such a high caliber and if(pretty BIG if)he does not return. This move would alter the Vikings season dramatically.
So the ESPNs and NFL Newtorks will continue to report as they have since mid May about Favre Watch. Less than a month ladies and gentlemen and we will find out one way or another.

Is Sage Being Marketed?
It is obvious that Sage Rosenfels is not the future of the Vikes at the QB position. So with the news that he moved back up to #2 ahead of rookie Joe Webb outperformed Sage in mini camp. The news was a surprise to me to say the least, well to me and many members of the media.
The only reason the Vikes would have done something like this with a merit of lack of performance on Webb's part. Is that the Vikes might be trying to "market" Sage in order to trade him. As long as you know who is not in camp, Webb and Sage are fighting for the #2 spot behind T-Jack.
I can see where the Vikes are coming from with this issue, why not get something back for Sage before you cut him lose before the start of the season(if he lasts that long). I have nothing against T-Jack, but Sage could not beat out T-Jack for the #2 job last season. It is not like T-Jack is Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.
In Sage Rosenfels career, he has been unable to win a #1 job and keep it for a full season. He has had his opportunities, but unable to capitalize on them.
I would be more surprised to see Sage cut than traded with what the Vikes are doing with him. As of right now, Sage is running the #2 squad for the Vikes.
